#SomeoneLikeMeSg

As a youth, what is one of the common topics that you and your friends talk about?

FOOD? GIRLS? PARTYING? CARS? SCHOOL? OR EVEN TEACHERS? LOL

Well frankly speaking, I've to admit that my friends are really active when it comes to sex so sex would definitely be one of the topics that we would ALWAYS talk about.

However, though we may talk about sex a lot.. I've never had to guts to admit the fact that I'm inexperienced in sex. I'll simply brush off the matter and just change the topic quickly, as I fear that they would think that I'm a loser for not having sex regularly, etc etc.

For other people, let's say you for example! Maybe you're shy when it comes to stuff like this (talking about sex). You're afraid to voice your thoughts and questions which are related to sex as people may deem you as a pervert. So you'll just keep quiet and be the norm just like everyone else.

There's where the title comes in, to save the day -  World AIDS Day!

This year, there is a campaign called #SomeoneLikeMeSG which is held in conjunction with World AIDS Day. It is a global campaign for young people to revolutionize their own sex education. By normalizing conversations about sex, the aim is to empower a generation of young people to lead their own sex education and, ultimately, to take action to help shape a world free from HIV.

If you're in a blur of what's going on, basically there are more and more younger people who's lacking when it comes to sexual education. Therefore, they tend to do things dangerously, let's say... have sex bareback (without condom), which may lead to pregnancy or even HIV!!!

So yeah, this campaign is here to break down the myths and barriers that confine sex education. This means starting a big, global, frank conversation about sex. A conversation that says, ' you are not alone', that ' someone like me' has the same worries, concerns and questions about sex as you do! This way, when the young talk about sex freely, the HIV message will also be naturally introduced into the conversation.

Let me be your teacher today and let's talk a little about AIDS and HIV. I will be answering some of your questions which are related to AIDS/HIV.

Is there a difference between HIV and AIDS?
Yes. HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the virus that causes AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which is the disease that attacks the immune system of the body. So, HIV is the virus, while AIDS is the disease

Most common ways of being infected? How do people get infected?
There are 3 modes of HIV transmission:  1) Blood Transfusion; 2) Unprotected Penetrative Sex (UPS);
3) Mother to Baby during pregnancy and during delivery.

In Singapore, sexual transmission remains the main mode of HIV transmission among Singapore residents. Of the 469 cases reported in 2012, 457 cases acquired the infection through the sexual route. SO GUYS, PLEASE START USING CONDOMS! Protect yourself as prevention is always better than a cure.

What should I do to avoid infection?
A: You can practice ‘ABCD’: A for Abstinence (the practice of restraining oneself from indulging in something, typically alcohol or sex.) .B for Being FAITHFUL. C for using the correct and consistent use of condoms and D for early detection. These principles are relevant for everyone regardless of the risk group they belong to.

What does HIV do to my body? Most common signs of HIV infection?
A: HIV attacks your immune system, which serves as your shield against sickness. Most common signs of HIV infection are similar to flu and fever infections. Hence the only way to know for sure is to take the HIV Test.

Where can I get tested?
A: You can go to any hospital or clinic nearest to you. You may also go to: Mobile HIV Testing and Counselling Service, visit www.afa.org.sg for their schedule OR Anonymous Counselling and Testing Service, visit them at Block 31 Kelantan Lane, Singapore 200031

I'm done with the Q&A LOL. Shan't type too much before the rest of you start falling asleep. So let's get back to the #SomeoneLikeMeSG topic.

For me, I'm afraid of what I've written above. I admit that sometimes I even feel pressured to have sex early as I'm afraid that my friends will look down on me when they find out that i'm inexperienced.

However, I'm looking at the positive side of this issue and never letting it bother me too much!

I may be inexperienced, but it means that I'm much safer! You know the saying, finding a virgin nowadays is like finding a unicorn. SO I'M A UNICORN HAHAHA.

AND I'M SURE I'M NOT ALONE.

So come, and join me.

I'll be glad to see your involvement!!!! It can be something like....
 or

These are just some of my samples haha. But i'm sure you guys can come up with something even better, ya? hahaha
