WTE#1: Balestier Bak Kut Teh

Ever since I've gotten my driver's license during december last year, I have been having supper on a regular basis with my friends. However, the main problem is to find a place to have yummy supper especially at such late timing. Instead of going to famous food blogs like ieatishootipost or ladyironchef, I decided to just head down to random places in Singapore in search of yummy supper hotspots.

Thus from now on, I'll be doing my own supper recommendations called the WTE (Where To Eat). I'll be recommending places where I have my supper on a daily basis and also rating them.

SO LET'S GO. For WTE #1 : It'll be Balestier Bak Kut Teh at Balestier (you don't say lol)

To be very frank, this is my second time having Bak Kut Teh in my life. My maid, being the lazy maid she is has never picked up new dishes nor tried out different ones. So you can say that i've been having the same food for the past 20 years -_- 

Bak Kut Teh is one of those dishes which I've not had. I've no idea why I didn't try them out when I see stalls selling them... i'm weird.... hahaha. 

I had the Balestier Bak Kut Teh with Jingyi on the 09/01/13 around 12am. Initially we were supposed to have the famous Founder's Bak Kut Teh but being the noob I am, I couldn't find the stall -_- There were a whole lot of Bak Kut Teh stalls along balestier road/orchid hotel and we choose to dine at the " Balestier Bak Kut Teh " stall as it was the only stall with people there. 

We ordered 2 bowls of the pork ribs soup, 1 bowl of you tiao, 1 bowl of braised beancurd, 2 bowls of rice and 2 cups of homemade barley. Total cost - $18

I'm not much of a food critic but here goes nothing!

For the soup, I would say that it's kinda sweet and peppery yet refreshing and light to the tastebuds at the same time. It's like a complex of flavours. I'm not sure how to put it in words but you can definitely smell the herbs used to boil this soup. For the pork ribs, VERY WELL DONE!!! It was very tender and chewy. Note that it isn't overcooked to the point that it'll fall off the bone, nor is it cooked to the point that it becomes saggy.

So I would say that it's rather good even though it's my second time eating Bak Kut Teh in my whole life.
 Your ordinary braised beancurd with soy sauce. No difference from the ones sold everywhere around singapore but to me it's a definite must have when it comes to eating economy rice or food like this.
 Jing yi had a craving for youtiao so this bowl is for him! :p

 Though the soup may look pretty bland and plain, it actually has a very strong taste to it.

Considering the price, taste and everything else, I would give this place a rating of 3.5/5
